Endorsements in Scranton Times-Tribune 9/17/22

Editor: Progressive Women of NEPA has endorsed candidates in the upcoming Nov. 8 general election.

As legislators, they would work diligently to protect the reproductive freedom of Pennsylvania women and address other vital issues. Each candidate has sought our endorsement and successfully completed our vetting process. We urge the public to consider casting votes for them.

We endorse Fern Leard, a Democrat from Dallas, for state House District 120 in Luzerne County. We endorse Meg Rosenfeld, a Democrat from Milford, for House District 139 in Pike and Wayne counties. We endorse Mayor Tarah Probst, a Democrat from Stroudsburg, for House District 189 in Monroe and Pike counties.

We endorse Jackie Baker, a Democrat from Montrose, for state Senate District 20. This district serves residents in Luzerne, Pike, Susquehanna, Wayne and Wyoming counties.

Our endorsed candidates will be the featured speakers at our annual cocktails and candidates event, Sept. 20 at the Colonnade in Scranton.

This year, breaking with our tradition of female-only speakers, we invited pro-choice allies to offer comments. Those invited are Josh Shapiro, Democratic candidate for governor; John Fetterman, Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate; and Democratic U.S. Rep. Matt Cartwright, of Moosic. Tickets are available on our website at prowomennepa.com.

As a political action committee, our mission is to improve government by working to recruit, train, fund and elect qualified, progressive women to political leadership at the state and local levels.
